What is Medical Coding ???

Evolution of Medical Coding

Early Beginings

The origins of medical coding can be traced back to the 17th century when John Graunt, a pioneering statistician, began systematically recording causes of death in London. His work laid the foundation for the classification of diseases and mortality statistics.

Introduction of CPT

In the 1960s, the American Medical Association (AMA) introduced the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) system. Development of ICD

It provided a standardized system for classifying diseases and health conditions, which was later adopted by the International Statistical Institute.
